System Request Limited, works to solve the needs of small to medium sized businesses that work in the area of manufacturing. Our company's product, HEIDi, is a knowledge-based engineering application, used to automate the creation of manufacturing cost estimates and engineering drawings, early in the product life-cycle. This solution can provide significant cost savings to any manufacturing company, who are striving to standardize their product offerings, reduce their design and drafting hours overhead, provide more accurate estimates at the quotation stage and reduce their time to market.

Customers using HEIDi are able to calculate the material and labour costs required to manufacture derivatives of a product prototype early, at the quotation stage of the product lifecycle. On placement of an order from a customer, HEIDi automates the creation of part and assembly manufacturing drawings, without the overhead of costly engineering design and drafting hours. HEIDI can generate product quotations in a variety of different formats and works in conjunction with a number of popular Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications.

With HEIDi, customers are able to define and enter ‘rules' that dictate the design parameters and constraints of all parts and part dimensions associated with a product design. These rules are then stored in a database. Using a technique not dissimilar to creating a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel, dimensional formulae and part relationships are entered into the database and product ‘questions' created, that ‘drive' the design.

For example, a customers product, whilst complex, may have many derivatives that can be totally defined by maybe just a dozen principal dimensions or questions. HEIDi allows ‘rules', material/labour costs and product part hierarchy to be easily defined for the product. The principle dimensions are then displayed in the form of a ‘wizard' style interface. By simply entering the values of the principle dimensions and/or providing answers to the specification ‘questions', HEIDi is then able to calculate the total material and labour costs for the product derivative and create all manufacturing data/drawings from pre-created templates.

These capabilities result in the ability for the customer to offer highly competitive quotations for its products that are totally accurate, rather than traditional estimating techniques, which is to make an educated guess and then maybe add 30%. Now, customers can work to pre-defined margins, offer competitive prices for their products and all with full confidence that they will be able to deliver on that price and still make a profit.

Design and drafting overheads are also substantially reduced by the ability of HEIDi to automate the creation of part and assembly drawings. This also significantly reduces that time it takes a customer to fulfil the order with its client and reduce their time to market.

For example, for a product containing around one hundred unique components with a typical design/drafting hours overhead of around one man week, HEIDi can produce a bill of materials and all engineering drawings in just ten minutes. Quotations for different derivatives can be produced in just a couple of minutes.

System Request Limited has acquired a reputation for not only our skills in software development, but also our understating of the engineering design and manufacturing process. Our products and services can be of great benefit to manufacturing companies who are trying to remain profitable during difficult times for the industry. With costs rising and companies working to more slender margins, HEIDi can maximise the potential of CAD systems already in place and significantly increase profits. We are not aware of any other product currently available that offers comparable benefits to those provided by HEIDi.
